Previous Vacations

There have been a few previous trips/visits to the good old US of A. Here's a complete and brief summary list. Those of you out there that know me may recall some of these from the time :-

(1) May 1980 - Jan 1982 Philadelphia, PA and various other states with my family. Too many highlights to note, but the first launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia and the Grand Canyon spring to mind. Sadly part of this one was a working trip as I had to attend schools over there, I've never made that mistake again since!
(2) Summer 1987 (4 weeks) - Denver, CO - 7000 mile round trip. My father loves to drive, and the rented station wagon named "ZAM" obliged. We went all over the place on this trip. Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse WIP, Devil's Tower, Yellowstone, Crater Lake in Oregon, into California for the first time, Crescent City, LA with Disneyland, El Centro, Arizona, Monument Valley etc. back to the starting point. My dad doesn't know when to stop. I don't know where I get my own trips from...
(3) Summer 1990 (4 weeks) - Boston, MA to LAX - cross country trip with my buddies Pedro and Yan. I abandoned them in Reedsport, Oregon and told them to get them to get on their bikes and ride home. I then went north to Seattle to give a woman her car back, then headed south via various means of transport to LAX via San Francisco.
(4) Sept 1994 (3 weeks) - LAX to LAX, tour of the SW. Met up with Pedro and his brother at the end in LA. Took them to Disneyland, they hated it although he got a good story about myself and Snow White. Got sunburned on an overcast day at Malibu.
(5) Sept 1998 (3 weeks) - Tour of SW including first ascent of Half Dome and descent to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and overnight in the Phantom Ranch.
(6) Sept 2000 (3 weeks) - NY, NY to New Orleans including the US F1 GP at Indy and walking past the World Trade Center early morning on 9/11.
(7) April/May 2003 (3 weeks) - LAX to LAX, various points in between. Highlights included climbing San Jacinto in the snow from the aerial tramway above Palm Springs, Sedona, AZ and Seqouia and Kings Canyon for the first time.
(8) Sept 2004 (3 weeks) - San Franciso, CA to Denver, CO. Yosemite avec bears in wood, Hoover Dam into Arizona, Humpreys Peak, Mt Taylor in New Mexico, Chaco Canyon, Santa Fe, Taos then into Colorado. This trip would provide inspiration for future trips.
(9) Sept 2005 (3 weeks) - Denver, CO to LAX, featuring an unfortunate incident with a rock near Los Alamos.
(10) Sept 2006 (3 weeks) - Denver, CO to LAX. Failed to climb both Longs Peak and Mt Elberts in Colorado.
(11) Sept 2007 (3 weeks) - Seattle, WA to LAX. Half Dome reconquered.
(12) Fall 2008 (5 nights) - NY, NY recuperation trip. My mother still hasn't forgiven me this trip. It was booked less than 3 days before I flew.
(13) May 2009 (3 weeks) - Denver, CO to San Francisco, CA. The "Greatest Hits Tour". Grand Canyon and Half Dome yet again, and also Guadalope Peak in Texas.
(14) May 2010 (3 weeks and 2 days) - Atlanta, GA to NY, NY - the Appalachian Trail and High Points trip (11 conquered, cheated on Mt Washington and used the SUV up it's toll road). This trip featured an unplanned extra night and day in New Jersey, call it a bonus day.
(15) Sept 2010 (2.5 weeks) - Denver, CO to Denver, CO. CANCELLED due to logistical reasons associated with an unplanned change of employment.
(15) Sept 2011 (3 weeks) - rescheduled cancelled trip of the previous year, not quite the same as the original, it's not only bigger, it'll be better too.

I could go on about various details of these trips for an eternity, but bandwidth is limited! Any questions just ask...
